  I am using a workflow with two activities activity1, activity2 in a process. The assigner for activity1 by mistake completed the task with out providing the required details. Is there a way to return to previous step - activity1, so that the activity1 assigner can update the required details?

  Yes there is a way to return to previous step in a running process. Select the 'Details' tab of the selected process instance to display detailed process information including 'Node Instance Details'. 'Node Instance Details' shows details and status of all activities. Here stop the current activity and start the previous activity using 'stop' and 'start' controls.
